would you trust storing water in that barrel? or would this just be to catch the rainwater, before purifying it?

QWAK,Lamentations,I plan to use mine for pet food -- got two DOGS and 8 CATS but I think it should be OK for drinking water too!:thinkey::yes:

I put my drinking water threw my AQUA RAIN filter and would put my HOT TUB (DUCK POND) water threw the filter and not thing twice about doing that!:thinkey:

I don't see it as a problem.:452:

That particular barrel you linked to - "secure transportation purposes such as hazardous waste". Hopefully, it has not had previous material in it at some point? What assurance do you have it hasnt been "previously used"?

Regardless, this idea of catching rain water isnt something Ive thought much about in the past, but I see it as a great idea for getting/keeping a handy source of backup drinking water on hand.

For outdoor use, I like the look of their other barrels better. The yellow barrels would tend to "stick out" too much?


This one that looks like an old wooden barrel seems perfect for running the rain gutter drain into (as pictured), without drawing too much attention.

QWAK,Lamentations,It is BRAND NEW -- never been issued --- GOVERNMENT SURPLUS! :36_1_11:

As for the color -- they do make spray paint for PLASTICS now -- so you could paint it any color you like -- even CAMO I supose.:dontknow:

Also it is 95 GAL not 40 and costs LESS and is likely much better made and stronger too!

Figure 600 gallons per 1 inch of rainfall that that falls on 1000 sf of rooftop. (or 0.6 gallons per inch of rain on 1sf of roof) It can add up to a lot, even in dry climates. Purify before drinking.

Built like a TANK -- PUN intended :wink: an instruction sheet inside says the 4 big notches in the top are for using a 2x4 to TURN the lid when making it air tight or losening!! :thumb.aspx:

One could --- by drilling a fiew holes and adding the nessary plumbing ,pump and filter and heater turn one in to a very NICE one person HOT TUB -- TWO if you are both skinny and REAL good friends!:wink::yes::36_3_13:

I have seen them selling caped pieces of 6" and 8" PVC pipe in the survival places going for WAY more than what this 95 Gal. barrel sells for! You could easaly put a full back pack,tent and food for a moth or more and enough guns and ammo to fight a small WAR in one of theas!!:thinkey::36_1_25::yes:

I may just order another -- I like it SOoooooooo much:23_30_104:, keeping food for the dogs and cats and perhaps chickens -- once the MUSIC STOPS could be a proplem and this would/could be a cheep solution!:thinkey:

Could also put a kid inside and roll it down a hill for amusment TOO!:hahaha::111: :cry1: -- probably should ware a helmet and some padding too, if you do.:wink: :thinkey::cry1:
